Xero is built for the world and localised for the UAE; WisoBooks is built for the Gulf and works anywhere. That shows up in three places: the price of multi-currency, which most UAE traders need; the Arabic interface, which Xero does not offer; and e-invoicing, where Xero is on the FTA's software register but not on the Ministry's list of accredited providers, so transmission goes through a partner.

Where Xero is stronger
- One ledger and one login for a group with entities in several countries.
- A very large marketplace of connected apps and a global accountant community.
- On the FTA Tax Accounting Software register (version 2026, valid to March 2027).
- Mature bank feeds and reconciliation workflows that many accountants already know.
Where WisoBooks is stronger
- Multi-currency from USD 29.99 a month, not USD 75, with VAT shown in AED on foreign-currency invoices.
- A full Arabic, right-to-left interface and bilingual documents.
- E-invoicing and the accredited-provider connection included in every UAE plan.
- Gulf specifics built in: emirate-wise VAT 201, the FTA Audit File, cheque register, and Saudi ZATCA in the same product.
- Inventory with costing methods and multiple warehouses, without an add-on app.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Xero if…
- your group already runs Xero in other countries
- your external accountant works only in Xero
- you depend on apps from the Xero marketplace
- you invoice only in AED, so multi-currency pricing does not matter
Choose WisoBooks if…
- you invoice or buy in USD, EUR or other currencies on a small team
- your team or customers work in Arabic
- you want 2027 e-invoicing priced into one subscription
- you need warehouses, cheques or Saudi e-invoicing in the same product

Switching from Xero to WisoBooks
From Xero, export the trial balance, the aged receivables and payables, and your contact list at a period end. Import them into WisoBooks as opening balances, then add each contact's emirate and TRN, which Xero files often hold only in free-text fields.
- Switch at the start of a VAT period, so no return is split across two systems.
- Bring across the trial balance, open invoices and bills, and stock at cost on the cut-over date; keep the old file read-only for the five-year retention period.
- Fill in every customer's and supplier's TRN and emirate before your first e-invoice; the network rejects what a PDF tolerated.
Questions people actually ask
Is Xero FTA approved in the UAE?
Xero is on the FTA's Tax Accounting Software register, version 2026, valid to March 2027. That listing is about tax record-keeping; it does not make Xero an e-invoicing provider, and Xero is not on the Ministry of Finance's list of accredited providers.
Can I use Xero for UAE e-invoicing from 2027?
Xero's UAE page lists UAE eInvoicing. Because Xero is not itself an accredited provider, confirm which provider transmits your invoices, that you can appoint it in EmaraTax, and what it costs per year at your volume.
Does Xero have an Arabic version?
Xero's interface is in English. WisoBooks has a full Arabic, right-to-left interface and produces bilingual documents.
What is the best Xero alternative in the UAE?
WisoBooks for multi-currency, Arabic and e-invoicing in one price; Zoho Books for a large vendor with a free plan; Wafeq for a Gulf product that is itself an accredited provider.
