compare UAE buyer's guide

Best accounting software in the UAE for 2026: eight options, compared honestly

VAT returns, the FTA audit file, and e-invoicing from 2027: the software you choose this year has to carry all three. We compared WisoBooks, Zoho Books, Xero, QuickBooks Online, Wafeq, Naqood, TallyPrime and Odoo against the two government registers, published UAE prices, and the questions an auditor will ask, and we say where each one is the better choice, including where it is not us.

Options compared 8 products
E-invoicing, AED 50m+ 1 January 2027
E-invoicing, everyone else 1 July 2027
Registers checked 7 October 2026

Most comparison pages in this market are written by one of the vendors being compared, and most of them read that way: every row a tick for the author, every competitor a polite "limited". This one is also written by a vendor, so we have held it to a different standard. Every fact about another product is what that product's own UAE pricing page, or a UAE government register, published on 7 October 2026. Where we could not confirm something, the table says "check" instead of guessing. And there is a section on where WisoBooks is the wrong choice.

Two government lists that get confused

Almost every UAE software page uses the word "accredited". It can mean one of two unrelated things, and the difference decides whether your invoices can be sent at all from 2027.

FTA Tax Accounting Software register MoF e-invoicing Accredited Service Providers
Run by Federal Tax Authority Ministry of Finance
What it says about a product The vendor declared the software meets the FTA's requirements for keeping tax records, and the FTA listed it for a stated version and period The company may transmit e-invoices over the UAE Peppol network and report tax data to the FTA
Do you have to use one? No. It is a vendor listing, not a condition of VAT registration or filing Yes. Every in-scope business must appoint one in EmaraTax before its deadline
Expires? Yes. Each listing carries a version and a "valid till" date Accreditation can be granted, suspended or withdrawn by the Ministry
Which of the eight appear (7 Oct 2026) Xero, TallyPrime, Naqood, Wafeq, Odoo; Zoho states it is listed Zoho, Wafeq, Tally
Read the "valid till" date, not just the name. On 7 October 2026 the FTA register showed Wafeq's listing dated to August 2026 and Odoo's (version 17) to June 2025; both may be mid-renewal.

The UAE checklist: what to test in any trial

Every product on this list can raise an invoice with 5% VAT on it. The differences show up in the places a demo rarely visits: the VAT 201 boxes, the audit file, a foreign-currency invoice, a corrected document after it has been reported. Take this list into any trial. We have filled in the WisoBooks column; ask every other vendor to fill in theirs, in a live demo, with your own data.

Capability Why it matters in the UAE WisoBooks
VAT 201 with the emirate-wise split Box 1 is reported per emirate; misallocation is one of the commonest assessed errors Yes, built from the same ledger as your invoices
FTA Audit File (FAF) export The per-transaction listing an FTA audit asks for Yes
Reverse charge on imports and services Must hit both output and input boxes; one-sided entries are a classic error Yes, posted to both sides automatically
Exempt vs zero-rated vs out of scope, per line They are reported in different boxes and affect input-tax recovery Yes, per line, with PINT AE exemption reason codes
Foreign-currency invoices with VAT shown in AED A legal requirement on a tax invoice in another currency Yes, on Essentials and above
E-invoicing: PINT AE generated from the invoice you raise Mandatory from 1 January 2027 (AED 50m+) and 1 July 2027 (everyone else) Yes, with status on the invoice and the provider connection included
Corrections after reporting A reported invoice cannot be edited; it is corrected by credit note or a new invoice Enforced: editing is blocked once reported
Cheques and post-dated cheques Still how much of UAE B2B is paid Yes: cheque register with print, present and clear
Inventory costing and warehouses Cost of sales and stock value drive both profit and the corporate tax base FIFO, weighted average and more; multi-warehouse on Plus
Arabic interface and Arabic documents Staff, customers and authorities often work in Arabic Full Arabic interface, right-to-left, bilingual invoices
Saudi ZATCA phase 2 in the same product For groups with a KSA entity or customers Yes
Payroll and WPS Salary transfers through WPS are mandatory for most mainland employers No. Use a payroll provider and post the journal
WisoBooks capabilities are by plan; see the pricing page for which plan includes what.

What the price on the page leaves out

From 2027, the cheapest subscription is often not the cheapest system. E-invoicing adds a line most comparison tables leave out: the provider that sends your invoices. Some vendors include it; some sell it as an add-on charged per transaction; with the rest you sign a separate contract with a provider and often pay someone to connect the two. Compare the whole year, not the first month.

Cost line What to ask In WisoBooks
Subscription Price at the plan you actually need: users, multi-currency, inventory, not the entry plan USD 14.99 to 99.99/month; two months free on annual billing
E-invoicing provider Included, an add-on per transaction, or a separate contract? Included on every UAE plan
Document volume Is there a cap, and what does the next tier cost? 60, 100, 500 or unlimited documents a month, by plan
Integration and onboarding Is there a set-up or mapping fee before the first invoice? None
Implementation partner For ERPs, partner days often cost more than the licence Not needed; self-serve set-up and data import
Payroll Separate product, higher plan, or not offered? Not offered; budget for a payroll provider
Leaving Can you export everything, including the e-invoices sent, in a usable format? Yes: full data export

Ask every vendor for one number in writing: software, plus e-invoicing transmission, plus onboarding, for twelve months, at your real invoice volume.

Signals you are choosing well, and signals you are not

Choosing well

  • The vendor names the accredited provider that sends your invoices, and it is on the Ministry's list today
  • The VAT 201 is produced from the same ledger as the e-invoices
  • You saw a credit note against a reported invoice in the demo
  • The yearly total is in writing, at your volume
  • You can export all of your data, whenever you want

Warning signs

  • "FTA approved" offered as the answer to the 2027 e-invoicing question
  • E-invoicing described only as "on our roadmap" with no provider named
  • Invoice status visible only in a second portal
  • Integration priced "after scoping"
  • A price that only covers the first year, or one user

When WisoBooks is not the right choice

  • You want payroll and WPS inside your accounting app. WisoBooks does not run payroll; Naqood, Wafeq Premium, TallyPrime and Odoo do.
  • You need a free-forever plan. WisoBooks has a 14-day free trial, not a free tier; Zoho Books and Naqood have free plans.
  • Your accountant insists on desktop software that works offline. That is TallyPrime's home ground.
  • You manufacture, with bills of materials and production orders. Look at an ERP such as Odoo.
  • You need software on the FTA Tax Accounting Software register, for example because a lender or auditor has asked for it. WisoBooks is not listed today.

How to switch before your e-invoicing deadline

  1. Pick a clean cut-over date

Switch at the start of a VAT period, so one return comes entirely from the old system and the next entirely from the new one. Never split a return across two systems.

  2. Clean the master data first

Every customer and supplier needs a legal name, address, emirate and, where registered, a 15-digit TRN. E-invoicing rejects what VAT returns quietly tolerated.

Export your contact list now and sort by TRN. The blanks are your to-do list.

  3. Bring across balances, not history

Import the trial balance at the cut-over date, open customer and supplier invoices, and stock on hand at cost. Keep the old system read-only for the five-year record-keeping period.

  4. Appoint your provider in EmaraTax

Appointment is made by you, against your own TRN, before your deadline: 30 October 2026 for businesses with AED 50m or more in revenue, 31 March 2027 for everyone else.

  5. Run one period in parallel

Prepare the first VAT return in the new system and compare it, box by box, with what the old process would have produced. Differences now are cheap; differences after filing are not.

Questions people actually ask

What is the best accounting software in the UAE?

It depends on what you need it to carry. For a VAT-registered SME that wants books, the VAT 201 return and 2027 e-invoicing in one subscription in English and Arabic, WisoBooks, Zoho Books and Wafeq are the strongest shortlist. For payroll and WPS in the same app, Naqood or Wafeq Premium. For desktop accounting, TallyPrime. For a full ERP, Odoo with an implementation partner.

Do I have to use FTA-accredited accounting software in the UAE?

No. The FTA's Tax Accounting Software register lists vendors who have declared their software meets its record-keeping requirements, but using listed software is not a condition of VAT registration or filing. What is mandatory from 2027 is different: in-scope businesses must issue invoices through a Ministry of Finance accredited e-invoicing service provider.

Does my accounting software need to be an accredited service provider?

No. The accreditation applies to whoever transmits your invoices. Some accounting vendors are accredited themselves (Zoho, Wafeq and Tally are on the Ministry's list); others, including WisoBooks, connect to an accredited provider. Either works, as long as you can name the provider and appoint it in EmaraTax before your deadline.

When does e-invoicing become mandatory in the UAE?

Businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more must appoint a provider by 30 October 2026 and go live on 1 January 2027. Everyone else must appoint by 31 March 2027 and go live on 1 July 2027. Government entities follow on 1 October 2027.

How much does accounting software cost in the UAE?

Published prices for small businesses run from free (Zoho Books Free, Naqood Free) to roughly AED 700 to 2,500 a year for a VAT-ready plan. From 2027 add e-invoicing transmission, which some vendors include and others charge per transaction. WisoBooks UAE plans run from USD 14.99 to 99.99 a month with e-invoicing included.

Which UAE accounting software includes payroll?

Naqood (with WPS, per the vendor), Wafeq on its Premium plan, TallyPrime and Odoo include payroll. Zoho sells payroll as a separate product. Xero and QuickBooks do not offer UAE payroll, and WisoBooks does not run payroll.

Can I keep using Xero or QuickBooks after 2027?

Yes, provided an accredited e-invoicing provider can take your invoices from them as compliant PINT AE documents. Neither is on the Ministry's provider list itself, so confirm the integration and its cost before your appointment deadline.

Is Excel or a free tool enough for a VAT-registered business?

For VAT returns it is risky; for e-invoicing it will not work. From your go-live date invoices must leave as structured PINT AE data through an accredited provider, which a spreadsheet cannot produce. Most free plans also exclude the VAT return.

Where these facts come from

Checked against the following on 7 October 2026. Rules and dates change — if you are reading this long after that date, verify before you act on it.

WisoBooks is a bookkeeping and business-management tool, not an accounting, tax or legal advisor. Nothing on this page is tax advice, and tax rules change. Confirm your own obligations with the relevant authority or a qualified advisor.
