One engine underneath, whichever setup you pick
A "solution" here is not a different product. It is the same double-entry system with a different set of modules switched on and a chart of accounts that suits how your industry trades. Nothing below changes between them.
- Every document posts a balanced journal to one general ledger
- The same chart of accounts, which you can rename, extend or import
- The same reports, on a cash or accrual basis, exportable to PDF, Excel and CSV
- The same role-based permissions, approval workflows and audit trail
- The same multi-currency handling, with realised and unrealised FX posted for you
Four decisions, and the rest follows
Picking the closest fit mainly answers four questions for you. You can change any of them later, though the costing method is the one worth getting right at the start.
- Whether you hold stock — and so whether inventory, warehouses and units of measure are switched on
- How you cost what you sell: FIFO, moving average, LIFO or specific identification
- Which dimension you report profit by: cost centres, projects, warehouses, or none
- Which documents you live in daily — quotes and invoices, or purchase orders and bills, or both
If none of the setups below is an obvious fit, start on the closest one. Everything here is a setting, not a separate edition, so nothing has to be migrated later.
