Set an expiry date and the quote is flagged once it passes. **Does the invoice keep the quoted prices?** Yes. Conversion copies the quoted lines, prices, discounts and tax exactly. **Can I quote in another currency?** Yes, with the exchange rate captured on the quote date. **Can I see my win rate?** Yes. Quote reporting shows sent, accepted, declined and converted values by period. ### Corrections that reverse properly URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/credit-notes Credit a whole invoice or a single line, put the balance on account, or refund it to the bank. Revenue, tax and stock all reverse the way an auditor expects. **A real reversal, not an edit** Approving a credit note posts the opposite journal, including tax and cost of goods sold, so history stays intact. - Full or partial credit - Tax reversed at the original rate - Stock returned to inventory - Original document stays untouched **Credit on account, or cash back** Leave the balance as available credit for the next invoice, or refund it from a bank account. - Auto-apply to the linked invoice - Unlinked credit waits in the credit pool - Manual allocation across invoices - Refund to bank, card or cash **Both directions** Supplier credit notes work the same way and net correctly against what you owe. - Customer and supplier credit notes - Netted in aged receivables and payables - Shown on statements - Full audit trail **Can I credit only part of an invoice?** Yes. Credit selected lines or a partial quantity or amount. **What happens to the tax?** It reverses at the rate on the original document, so the tax return stays correct. **Does returned stock come back?** Yes, at the original cost, so inventory valuation and COGS stay right. **Can a credit sit unallocated?** Yes. It stays in the customer's credit pool until you allocate it or refund it. ### Commit to spend before the bill arrives URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/purchase-orders Raise a purchase order, see what is on order and what it will cost, then convert it to a bill when the goods land. **Order, approve, track** Build the order from your item catalogue, route it for approval and keep the status visible to everyone. - Approval workflow before issue - Status: draft, sent, part received, closed - Committed spend on the supplier record - Send as branded PDF **Receipt what actually arrived** Receive in full or in part, and only what is received hits stock. - Partial receipt against a line - Stock in at landed cost - Backorder visibility - Per-warehouse receipting **Convert to a bill** Turn the order into a supplier bill with the same lines, tax and coding, and a guard against converting twice. - One-click PO to bill - Re-conversion guard - Three-way visibility: order, receipt, bill - Variance visible before you pay **Do purchase orders affect the ledger?** No. A purchase order is a commitment, not a posting. The ledger moves when the bill is approved. **Can I part-receive an order?** Yes, line by line, with the remainder staying on order. **Can I stop a PO being billed twice?** Yes. Converted orders are flagged and re-conversion is blocked. **Is there approval before ordering?** Yes, with role-based approval permissions. ### Cheques with a lifecycle, not a memo field URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/cheques Issue, print, present, clear or bounce - each step posts correctly and the outstanding cheque report always ties to the bank. **Issue and print** Raise a cheque against a supplier or a payee, print it on your stationery, and keep the number sequence intact. - Issued and received cheques - Print with number sequence - Payee can be a supplier, customer or name - Cheque book per bank account **Presentment and clearance** Record the date a cheque is presented and the date it clears, so the bank balance is right on both. - Dated presentment - Clearance against the bank account - Bounce with automatic reversal - Void guarded once reconciled **Reports that tie out** Outstanding cheques, cleared cheques and a full history per bank account. - Outstanding cheque report - Clearance report by period - Bank reconciliation aware - Foreign-currency cheques at the correct rate **Can I handle post-dated cheques?** Yes. The presentment date drives when the cash effect lands, not the issue date. **What happens if a cheque bounces?** The payment reverses and the invoice or bill goes back to outstanding, with the bounce recorded. **Can I void a cheque?** Yes, unless it has already been reconciled - then a reversal is required instead. **Do foreign-currency cheques work?** Yes, at the correct rate for the cheque, including the FX effect on settlement. ### Every payment matched to what it settles URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/payments Receive one payment against several invoices, take a deposit before the work starts, and let overpayments sit as credit instead of confusing the ledger. **Allocate in one pass** Select the invoices a receipt covers, part-pay what is short, and settle the rest later. - Batch receive across invoices - Part payment with running balance - Discounts and write-offs on settlement - Payment method and reference captured **Prepayments and overpayments** Money received before an invoice, or more than the invoice, becomes on-account credit that is easy to find and apply. - Customer and supplier prepayments - Overpayment credit pool - Apply credit to a future invoice - Refund what is not going to be used **FX handled at settlement** The settlement rate is used for the cash, and the difference from the document rate posts as realised FX gain or loss. - Settlement rate can be overridden - Realised FX posted automatically - Base-currency reporting stays correct - Unrealised revaluation at period end **Can one payment settle several invoices?** Yes, in a single batch receipt with the allocation shown line by line. **What if a customer pays too much?** The excess becomes on-account credit that you can apply to a later invoice or refund. **Can I take a deposit?** Yes. Record a prepayment and allocate it when the invoice is raised. **How is FX handled?** The settlement rate drives the cash, and the variance to the invoice rate posts as realised FX. ### The paperwork that repeats, handled URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/recurring Retainers, subscriptions, rent, accruals and depreciation issue themselves on schedule with the right coding, tax and currency every time. **Set the schedule once** Choose the cadence, the start, and whether it ever ends. WisoBooks generates the documents on time. - Weekly, monthly, quarterly or custom - End date or occurrence limit - Advance generation as drafts - Completed schedules close themselves **Correct every time** Templates refresh tax rates, respect account roles and use the rate on the generation date, not the rate on the day you built the template. - Live tax-rate refresh - Correct account and cost-center coding - Currency rate on the generation date - Project and tracking dimensions carried through **Invoices, bills and journals** The same engine drives sales, purchases and the ledger. - Recurring sales invoices - Recurring supplier bills - Recurring manual journals - Period-lock aware generation **Are recurring documents issued automatically?** Your choice. Generate them as drafts for review, or approve and send automatically. **What if a tax rate changes?** The template picks up the current rate when it generates, rather than repeating a stale one. **Can I stop a schedule?** Yes. Pause, end, or set an occurrence limit up front. **What happens if the period is locked?** Generation into a locked period is blocked and flagged, rather than silently posted. ### Profit and loss, per project URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/projects Tag income and cost to a project on the documents themselves, set a budget, and see margin while there is still time to act on it. **One dimension, everywhere it matters** Invoices, bills, expenses, spend money and journals all carry the project, so nothing escapes the report. - Project picker on sales and purchase documents - Posted documents can be re-coded and repost - Expense categories keep their project - Recurring documents carry it through **Budgets and milestones** Give the project a budget and milestones, and track completion alongside spend. - Budget vs actual by project - Milestone completion tracking - Committed cost from purchase orders - Status: quoted, active, on hold, closed **Profitability reporting** Project profit and loss reads from the ledger, so it includes cost of goods, FX and journals - not just the documents you remembered. - Project P&L from the general ledger - Transactions fold per project - Billable vs non-billable analysis - Export to Excel or PDF **Is the project dimension on every document?** It is on the documents where it makes sense - invoices, bills, expenses, spend money and journals. Quotes and credit notes inherit it where it applies. **Can I re-code a posted document?** Yes, and the general ledger reposts to the new project so the report stays true. **Does it work with cost centers?** Yes. Cost centers and projects are separate dimensions and can be used together. **Is it available on every plan?** Projects is a plan feature. See the pricing page for which plans include it. ### Tax that adds up at the end of the period URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/tax-vat Define your rates and groups once, apply them per line, and produce a tax summary that ties back to the ledger instead of a spreadsheet. **Rates and groups you control** Set up the rates your jurisdiction needs, group them where tax stacks, and pick the default per account or item. - Unlimited tax rates - Tax groups for compound tax - Default rate per item and account - Zero-rated and exempt handling **Applied where it belongs** Tax is a line-level property, so a single document can mix rates and still total correctly. - Per-line tax on every document - Inclusive or exclusive pricing - Tax on purchases as well as sales - Correct rounding to two decimals **A summary that ties out** The period tax summary is built from postings, so it agrees with the tax control accounts on the balance sheet. - Output and input tax by rate - Cash or accrual basis - Credit notes netted correctly - Export for filing **Can different lines have different tax rates?** Yes. Tax is applied per line, and the document totals each rate separately. **Do you support tax-inclusive pricing?** Yes, per document, with the tax extracted correctly for reporting. **Does the tax report match the ledger?** Yes. It is generated from postings against the tax control accounts. **Do you support e-invoicing?** Country-specific mandatory e-invoicing is supported where we have enabled it. Contact us about your jurisdiction. ### Give people exactly the access they need URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/features/roles-permissions Build roles from individual permissions, require approval before money moves, and keep an audit trail of every change. **Roles that mean something** Start from sensible built-in roles or compose your own from the permission list, right down to the action. - Built-in and custom roles - Permission-level control - Warehouse and branch scoping - Enforced on the server, not just the menu **Approvals before money moves** Route bills, expenses and purchase orders for approval and keep the decision on the record. - Approval workflow on spend - Approver recorded on the document - Rejection with a reason - Notifications to approvers **Account security** Two-factor authentication, session controls and invitation-based onboarding for new team members. - Two-factor authentication - Session timeout controls - Invite-based user onboarding - Full activity log **Can I create my own roles?** Yes. Build a role from the individual permissions each module exposes. **Is access enforced properly?** Yes. Every action is authorised on the server, so hiding a menu is not the only control. **Can I restrict a user to one warehouse?** Yes. Users can be scoped to the location they work in. **Is there an audit trail?** Yes. Changes are logged with the user and timestamp, and corrections are reversals rather than silent edits. ## Solutions ### Invoicing and books that take minutes a week URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/freelancers Send a professional invoice the day the work ships, see who has paid, and hand your accountant a clean set of books at year end. No spreadsheets, no chasing. **Invoices that get you paid faster** Build an invoice from a saved item list, apply your logo and payment terms, and send it as a branded PDF or a share link. - Reusable items, rates and tax codes - Four branded invoice templates - Automatic overdue reminders - Recurring invoices for retainers **Every expense captured** Log costs as you go, attach the receipt, and mark what is billable so it lands on the client's next invoice instead of your own pocket. - Attach receipts to any expense - Billable expenses pushed to invoices - Mileage claims at the official rate - Categories mapped to real accounts **Year end without the panic** Your profit and loss, tax summary and customer statements are already built. Export them and your accountant is done. - Profit & loss and balance sheet - Tax / VAT summary by period - Customer statements on demand - Export to PDF, Excel or CSV **Is WisoBooks too much software for one person?** No. Start on the Starter plan with invoicing, expenses and reports, and turn on inventory, projects or multi-currency only if you ever need them. **Can I bill in a client's currency?** Yes. Invoice in any currency and WisoBooks converts to your base currency automatically, including the FX gain or loss on settlement. **Will my accountant be able to use it?** Yes. Everything posts to a real double-entry general ledger, so a trial balance, ledger export or set of statements is one click away. **Do I need to install anything?** No. WisoBooks runs in the browser on any device, and your data is backed up automatically. ### One system for sales, spending and the books URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/small-business Stop stitching an invoicing tool, a spreadsheet and your bank statements together. WisoBooks runs the whole cycle and posts the accounting for you. **Quote to cash, end to end** A quote becomes an invoice, the invoice becomes a payment, and the payment lands in the bank reconciliation without anyone retyping it. - Quotes, invoices, credit notes and refunds - Purchase orders, bills and supplier payments - Cheques with a full lifecycle - Every step posts to the ledger automatically **Banking that reconciles itself** Import statements in five formats, let bank rules categorise the routine lines, and review only the exceptions. - CSV, OFX, QIF, MT940 and CAMT.053 - Condition-and-action bank rules - Match against invoices and bills - Reconcile to the statement balance **Roles for a real team** Give the salesperson sales, the bookkeeper the ledger, and keep approvals where they belong. - Role-based permissions on every module - Approval workflows for spending - Full audit trail of who changed what - Warehouse- and branch-scoped access **Can I move my existing data in?** Yes. Customers, suppliers, items and opening balances import from CSV, and you can set an opening trial balance so history stays intact. **How long does setup take?** Most businesses are invoicing on day one. The onboarding wizard sets your currency, tax rates and chart of accounts for your country. **Does it handle tax and VAT?** Yes. Define tax rates and groups, apply them per line, and produce a period tax summary that ties back to the ledger. **What if we grow?** Turn on multi-warehouse, cost centers, projects, multi-currency or the API when you need them, without changing systems. ### Add locations, currencies and people without adding chaos URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/growing-business Growth is where simple tools fall over. WisoBooks scales with warehouses, cost centers, projects, approvals and multi-currency already built in. **Multi-location operations** Track quantity on hand per warehouse, move stock with a three-state transfer, and scope users to the site they work in. - Per-warehouse stock and valuation - Draft, in-transit and received transfers - Freight capitalised into stock cost - Warehouse-scoped roles and reports **Profitability you can slice** Two tracking dimensions let you report profit and loss by department, branch, project or campaign without a second chart of accounts. - Cost centers on every transaction line - P&L by cost center or project - Budget vs actual by dimension - Reallocate historic postings **Control as headcount grows** Approvals, period locks and an immutable audit trail keep a bigger team honest. - Approval workflows for bills and expenses - Period locking after close - Custom roles down to the action - Complete change history **Can we report across multiple branches?** Yes. Use cost centers or warehouses as the branch dimension and run a consolidated or per-branch profit and loss. **How does multi-currency work?** Invoice, bill and bank in any currency. WisoBooks stores the base-currency value, revalues open balances and posts realised and unrealised FX automatically. **Is there an API?** Yes. A REST API with API keys, OAuth apps and webhooks covers contacts, documents, payments, items and reports. **Can we lock a closed period?** Yes. Lock a period so nothing can be posted or edited behind the close, with an override permission for the finance lead. ### Governance, integration and control at scale URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/enterprise Custom roles, approval chains, period locks, a complete audit trail and a REST API that lets WisoBooks sit inside the systems you already run. **Segregation of duties** Build roles from individual permissions, then require approval before money moves. - Permission-level custom roles - Approval workflows on spend - Warehouse and branch scoping - Session controls and 2FA **Audit and close discipline** Every posting is traceable to a document, a user and a moment in time, and closed periods stay closed. - Immutable double-entry ledger - Reversal-based corrections, never silent edits - Period locking with override permission - Activity log across the tenant **Integrate, do not re-key** A documented REST API, API keys, OAuth applications and webhooks connect WisoBooks to the rest of your stack. - OpenAPI spec and interactive docs - API keys and OAuth2 apps - Webhooks on document events - Bulk export of reports and journals **Can we run several entities?** Yes. Each legal entity runs as its own tenant with its own base currency and chart of accounts, and users can be given access to more than one. **How is our data isolated?** Every record is scoped to a tenant at the data layer, and access is enforced on the server for every request, not just hidden in the UI. **Do you support single sign-on?** Two-factor authentication is built in today. Talk to us about SSO requirements for your rollout. **Can we export everything?** Yes. Reports, journals and master data export to CSV, Excel and PDF, and the API exposes the same data programmatically. ### Know your margin on every shelf URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/retail Barcodes, variants, per-store stock and daily sales that post straight to the ledger, so the number on the dashboard is the number in the bank. **Variants that behave like real products** Generate SKUs from attributes, then carry stock, price and barcode per variant under one parent item. - Attribute-driven SKU generation - Per-variant stock, price and barcode - Bulk price and cost updates - Low-stock alerts per location **Every location counted separately** Each store or stockroom is a warehouse with its own quantity on hand and its own valuation. - Quantity on hand per store - Transfers between stores - Stock adjustments with a reason - Stocktake and variance reporting **Margin you can trust** Costing is your choice - FIFO, moving average, LIFO or specific identification - and gross margin reports read from the ledger, not a guess. - Four costing methods - Landed cost including freight - Gross margin by item and category - Best and worst sellers **Do you have a point of sale?** WisoBooks is the accounting and inventory back office. Record daily sales as invoices or a summary sale, or push transactions in through the API from your POS. **Can I scan barcodes?** Yes. Items and variants carry barcodes that can be scanned into sales, purchases and stock counts. **How is stock valued?** Choose FIFO, moving average, LIFO or specific identification per tenant. Inventory value always ties to the inventory control account in the general ledger. **Can I track promotions?** Yes. Use cost centers as a campaign dimension and report profit and loss on the promotion. ### Bill the work, not a best guess URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/professional-services Track time and costs against a project, mark what is billable, and turn it into an invoice your client can actually read. **Projects with a budget** Give an engagement a budget, then watch committed and actual cost land against it as work happens. - Budget vs actual per project - Milestones and completion tracking - Project dimension on every document - Profitability by client and engagement **Billable time and cost** Time and expenses tagged to a project flow into the next invoice instead of being written off. - Billable flag on time and expenses - Mileage at the official rate - Costs carried at your markup - One-click draft invoice from unbilled work **Retainers on autopilot** Recurring invoices issue on schedule with the right tax, currency and account coding every time. - Weekly, monthly or custom schedules - Draft or auto-approve - Automatic payment reminders - Recurring bills and journals too **Can I see profit per client?** Yes. Report profit and loss by project or by cost center, and drill into the documents behind any number. **Does it handle fixed-fee and time-and-materials?** Both. Invoice a fixed fee on milestones, or build the invoice from unbilled time and expenses. **Can I invoice in my client's currency?** Yes, with automatic conversion and FX gain or loss on settlement. **What about subcontractors?** Record their bills against the project so committed cost and margin stay accurate. ### Volume, terms and stock that has to be right URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/wholesale-distribution Purchase orders, landed cost, per-warehouse stock, customer credit terms and statements that survive a thousand lines a month. **Units of measure that convert** Set a purchase, stock and sales unit per item with conversion factors, and quantities stay correct wherever they are entered. - Separate purchase, stock and sales units - Automatic conversion factors - Cost per stock unit stays accurate - Barcodes per unit **Landed cost and transfers** Capitalise freight into stock value and move goods between depots with a transfer that shows what is still on the road. - Freight and duty into item cost - Draft, in-transit, received transfers - Per-warehouse valuation - Stock adjustment with reason codes **Terms, limits and statements** Payment terms, aged debt and complete customer statements keep the receivables ledger under control. - Payment terms per customer - Aged receivables and payables - Full customer and supplier statements - Automatic overdue reminders **Can I buy in one unit and sell in another?** Yes. Each item can carry a purchase, stock and sales unit with conversion factors, and costing stays in the stock unit. **Does freight affect stock value?** Yes. Freight on a purchase or a transfer is capitalised into the value of the goods, so cost of goods sold is right. **How do I see stock in transit?** Transfers move through draft, in-transit and received, and in-transit quantity is reported separately. **Can I set customer credit limits?** Yes, alongside payment terms, aged debt reporting and statements. ### Job costing that keeps up with the site URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/construction Every bill, subcontractor invoice, material issue and expense lands against the job, so you know the margin before the job is finished. **Job costing on every document** Tag bills, expenses, purchase orders and stock issues to a project and see committed cost against budget in real time. - Project dimension across purchasing - Budget vs committed vs actual - Subcontractor bills against the job - Margin per job and per phase **Quotes, variations and progress claims** Quote the job, invoice against milestones, and raise variations without rebuilding the paperwork. - Quote to invoice conversion - Milestone and progress invoicing - Credit notes for agreed reductions - Customer statements per job **Plant and equipment** Keep the asset register current with proper depreciation and disposal accounting. - Straight line and declining balance - Depreciation schedules - Disposal with gain or loss - Net book value on the balance sheet **Can I compare estimate to actual?** Yes. Set a project budget and WisoBooks reports budget, committed and actual side by side as costs post. **Does it handle retentions?** Hold back a retention on the invoice and release it as a later document so the receivable stays visible. **Can subcontractor costs be tracked per job?** Yes. Their bills carry the project dimension like any other purchase. **What about equipment costs?** Register plant as fixed assets and depreciate it, or expense small tools against the job directly. ### Back-office accounting for online sellers URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/ecommerce Push orders in through the API, keep stock accurate across every channel, and settle payouts against the ledger without a spreadsheet. **Bring orders in automatically** The REST API and webhooks let your storefront create contacts, invoices, payments and stock movements as they happen. - API keys and OAuth applications - Contacts, invoices, payments, items - Webhooks on document events - OpenAPI spec and interactive docs **One stock truth** Hold stock per warehouse and per variant so the number you publish to a channel is the number you actually have. - Per-variant stock and barcode - Multi-warehouse quantity on hand - Low-stock alerts - FIFO, LIFO, moving-average or specific-identification costing **Payouts that reconcile** Import the settlement file, let bank rules split fees and refunds, and match the rest against invoices. - Statement import in five formats - Bank rules for fees and adjustments - Match to invoices and refunds - Reconcile to the payout balance **Do you have a Shopify or WooCommerce app?** Not yet as a one-click app. The REST API and webhooks are documented and are how sellers connect their storefronts today. **Can I track cost of goods sold?** Yes. Choose your costing method and COGS posts on every sale, so gross margin is real. **Can I sell in several currencies?** Yes, with automatic conversion and realised FX on settlement. **How are refunds handled?** As credit notes and refunds that reverse the original revenue and tax correctly. ### Clients whose books you can actually work with URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/solutions/accountants A real double-entry ledger, reversal-based corrections, period locking and exports that land in your workpapers without a rebuild. **A ledger that behaves** Everything posts double entry, corrections reverse rather than overwrite, and every balance drills to the document behind it. - Full chart of accounts you control - Manual and recurring journals - Trial balance, P&L, balance sheet - Drill-down from any figure **Close and keep it closed** Lock a period so the client cannot post behind your close, with an override reserved for whoever should have it. - Period locking with override permission - Audit trail on every change - Reversal-based credit notes and voids - Opening balance setup **Workpaper-ready output** Ninety-five reports, cash or accrual basis, exportable in the format your workpapers expect. - Cash and accrual basis switch - Aged receivables and payables - Tax and VAT summaries by period - PDF, Excel and CSV export **Can I access several client tenants?** Yes. A user can be invited into more than one tenant and switch between them. **Is it real double-entry?** Yes. See the partners page for referral and advisory arrangements. ## Resources ### Answers, in the order you will need them URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/resources/help-center Setup, day-to-day workflows and month-end close, organised by module. Last reviewed: 2026-08-31. Almost every VAT assessment we have read about starts with a return that balanced. The total was right; the composition was not. These are the nine errors that survive a quick review, why each one hides, and the single check that finds it. Key facts: Form — VAT 201; Deadline — 28th of the following month; Correct in-return up to — AED 10,000; Above that — Voluntary Disclosure (Form 211). **Does a mistake matter if the total tax is still correct?** Yes. Reporting a supply in the wrong emirate, or in box 4 instead of box 5, is a non-compliant return even when the payable amount is unchanged. The emirate split is used to apportion revenue between the emirates, and the zero-rated/exempt split determines what input tax you were entitled to recover. **How far back do I have to fix errors?** An error must be corrected for the period it occurred in. Errors of AED 10,000 or less can be corrected in the current return; larger ones require a Voluntary Disclosure for the original period. Records must be kept for at least five years, so the practical horizon is five years. **Do I still file if I had no transactions?** Yes. A nil return is legally required and is due on the same date as any other. Not filing it attracts the late-filing penalty exactly as though tax were owed. ### What has to be on a UAE tax invoice — and what happens when it is not URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-tax-invoice-requirements Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-31. Article 59 lists fourteen particulars a tax invoice must carry, and Article 60 does the same for a credit note. Most businesses meet twelve of them by accident and miss the same two every time. Here is the full list, in plain language, with what each one is actually for. Key facts: Governing articles — ER Art. 59 and 60; Issue within — 14 days of the date of supply; Simplified invoice ceiling — AED 10,000; Keep records for — 5 years. **Does the invoice have to say "Tax Invoice" in Arabic too?** The Executive Regulation requires the words to be clearly displayed; the FTA may require an Arabic version of a document on request. Issuing bilingual documents is the safe practice, and it is what most UAE businesses do. **My customer says my invoice is not valid. What are they claiming?** Almost always that their TRN is missing, or that the document does not say "Tax Invoice". Both are particulars their own input tax claim depends on, so their finance team is protecting their recovery, not being difficult. **Can I fix a wrong invoice by editing and resending it?** Before it is transmitted to the e-invoicing network, yes. Afterwards the number is consumed: a reduction in value needs a tax credit note, and an increase needs a new invoice. This is why the check is worth running before you send, not after. ### Input tax: what you can recover, what the law blocks, and the apportionment nobody does URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-vat-input-tax-recovery Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-31. Box 9 is the only box on a UAE VAT return where the money moves toward you, which is exactly why it is the box the FTA looks at hardest. Three rules govern it: entitlement, the Article 53 block, and — if you make any exempt supplies at all — apportionment. Key facts: Box — 9 and 10; Blocked by — ER Article 53; Actual-use threshold — AED 250,000; Capital assets scheme — 5 or 10 years. **Can I recover VAT on a staff car?** Only if the vehicle is genuinely not available for personal use — a pool vehicle kept at the premises, a delivery van, a vehicle used exclusively for the business. A car an employee drives home is available for personal use, and the input tax is blocked. **I make one small exempt supply. Do I really have to apportion?** Technically yes — any exempt supply makes you partially exempt. In practice the standard formula will produce a recovery percentage at or very near 100%, so the adjustment is small. The obligation is to compute it and be able to show the working, not to arrive at a particular answer. **Do I recover input tax on reverse-charge purchases?** Yes, in box 10, to the extent the purchase is for taxable activity — the same test as any other input tax. You declare the output side in box 3 at the same time, so a fully recoverable reverse-charge purchase is cash-neutral. ### UAE VAT deadlines and what being late actually costs URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-vat-deadlines-penalties Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-31. The 28th is the easy part. What most published guidance gets wrong is the arithmetic afterwards: the late-payment penalty compounds on monthly anniversaries, voluntary disclosure is tiered by how late you are, and correcting an error before the payment due date can cost nothing at all. Key facts: Return and payment due — 28 days after the period; Late filing — AED 1,000, then 2,000; Late payment — 2% then 4% monthly, capped 300%; Voluntary disclosure — 5% to 40% by year. **Does filing on time but paying late still attract a penalty?** Yes. Filing and payment are separate obligations sharing one deadline. The late-payment penalty starts the day after the due date at 2% of the unpaid tax and adds 4% on each monthly anniversary. **Is there any advantage to disclosing an error myself?** A large one. A voluntary disclosure in the first year carries 5%. Failing to disclose before the FTA notifies you of an audit carries 50% plus 4% per month or part month. The gap between those two numbers is the entire argument for reviewing your own returns. **How long do I keep the records?** At least five years for VAT records generally, and longer for real estate — fifteen years from the end of the tax period for capital assets in property. The practical rule is that anything feeding a return must be reproducible for as long as that return can be examined. ### Getting the money back: VAT refunds, credits and Form VAT311 URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-vat-refunds Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-31. Being in a recoverable position does not repay you. The credit sits on your account until you ask for it, it expires, and a surprising number of exporters and construction businesses have never asked. Here is what a refund claim involves and what makes one go through first time. Key facts: Election — Box 15 of the VAT 201; Application — Form VAT311 in EmaraTax; Typical processing — 20 business days; Payment after approval — about 5 business days. **Is ticking box 15 enough to get paid?** No. Box 15 is the election; the application is Form VAT311, submitted separately in EmaraTax. Without the form there is nothing for the FTA to process. **Can I claim a refund for only part of the credit?** Yes. You may request part of the balance and carry the rest forward. Businesses with an ongoing credit often claim a round amount each year and leave a working buffer. **What if the FTA rejects part of my claim?** The disallowed amount usually returns to your credit balance rather than disappearing, but the reason matters: if it was disallowed because the input tax was blocked or the invoice was invalid, the same problem is probably present in other periods too. ### What it actually means to automate a UAE VAT return URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-vat-automation-wisobooks Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-31. Every accounting product in the region says it handles UAE VAT. Almost all of them mean the same narrow thing: they add 5% to an invoice and total it up at the end of the quarter. That is bookkeeping with a tax column. This is what the rest of the job looks like, and what we built to do it. Key facts: Boxes computed — 1a–1g and 2–15; Every figure — Traceable to its documents; Reconciled to — The VAT control accounts; Languages — English and Arabic. **Can WisoBooks submit my VAT return to the FTA for me?** No, and neither can anything else: there is no public filing API for VAT 201. WisoBooks prepares, validates and locks the return, gives you every box ready to enter in EmaraTax, and records the receipt reference. It never claims a return was filed when a person filed it. **Is WisoBooks accredited by the FTA?** We do not claim accreditation we cannot evidence. E-invoicing under the UAE mandate is transmitted through an Accredited Service Provider appointed by the Ministry of Finance; WisoBooks connects to one. Read the mandate article for exactly how that works and what you have to appoint yourself. **We already have an accountant. Does this replace them?** No. It replaces the part of their work that is copying figures between systems and re-deriving them. What it gives them instead is a return they can review with the documents attached — which is what they wanted from you in the first place. ### How to file a UAE VAT return, box by box URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-vat-return-filing Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-24. Form VAT 201 has seven sections and fourteen boxes, and thirteen of them are arithmetic you should never be doing by hand. This is what each box wants, when it is due, and how to close the month so the return is a five-minute job. Key facts: Form — VAT 201; Filed in — EmaraTax; Deadline — 28 days after the period; Standard rate — 5%. **Can I upload a file instead of typing the figures?** No. The FTA portal takes the return figures as data entry; there is no XML or spreadsheet upload for VAT 201. The point of good bookkeeping here is that the fourteen numbers are produced by a report rather than by a person. **What if I have no transactions in a period?** You still file. A nil return is a return, and not filing it attracts the late-filing penalty in the same way. **How do I fix a return I have already filed?** Through a voluntary disclosure in EmaraTax. Penalties are lower the earlier you disclose, so a mistake found in week one is materially cheaper than the same mistake found on audit. **Do I report sales in AED if I invoice in dollars?** Yes. Foreign-currency amounts are converted to AED at the exchange rate published by the UAE Central Bank for the date of supply, and the tax amount must appear in AED on the invoice. **How long do I keep the records?** Five years from the end of the tax period they relate to, and fifteen years for records relating to real estate. ### How to appoint an Accredited Service Provider in EmaraTax URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-appoint-asp-emaratax Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-24. Appointing a provider is a short administrative task with a hard deadline attached to it. Ten minutes of clicking, on a day of your choosing — or a fine of AED 5,000 a month on a day of theirs. Key facts: Where — EmaraTax; You need — TRN + UAE PASS; Appoint by — 30 Oct 2026 / 31 Mar 2027; If you don't — AED 5,000 per month. **Can my accountant appoint the provider for me?** Only if they have authorised access to your EmaraTax account. The appointment is made from your taxable person profile, so somebody with those credentials has to make it. **What if my software vendor is not accredited?** Then they are not the party who transmits. Software that produces a compliant PINT AE document and connects to an accredited provider is a perfectly normal arrangement — what does not work is software that is neither accredited nor connected to somebody who is. **Can I appoint more than one provider?** You appoint the provider that transmits for a given TRN. Groups with several TRNs make an appointment per TRN, and they do not all have to be the same provider — though there is rarely a good reason for them not to be. **Do I still issue PDFs to customers?** You can, as a human-readable copy. It is no longer the invoice. The invoice is the structured document that crossed the network. **What happens if my provider has an outage?** Your provider's continuity arrangements cover the transmission, but a failure that stops you issuing must be reported to the FTA within the required window — the penalty for not reporting is AED 1,000 per day. Ask about this before you sign. ### Choosing your e-invoicing stack: the software and the provider URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-einvoicing-with-wisobooks Country: AE. Last reviewed: 2026-08-24. Compliance is bought as two things, and most confusion in this market comes from vendors blurring them. Here is what each part actually does, what to ask before you sign, and how WisoBooks fits into it. Key facts: Two parts — Software + provider; Format — PINT AE; Network — Peppol, 5-corner; Accredits — Ministry of Finance. **Do I need both a provider and accounting software?** Yes. The provider transmits and reports; the software produces the document and keeps your books. A provider alone leaves you typing invoices into a portal; software alone cannot reach the network. **Can I keep my current accounting system and just add a provider?** If it can produce a complete PINT AE document from real data, yes. Most cannot without a mapping layer, and that layer becomes something you own and maintain. **What happens to invoices I raised before my go-live date?** They stay as they are. The mandate applies to documents issued from your phase date onwards; earlier invoices are corrected under the rules that applied when they were issued. **Is WisoBooks ready before my deadline?** The UAE e-invoicing path — onboarding, structured document generation, submission, status tracking and the correction rules — is built and testable today, including a sandbox you can rehearse in. Talk to us about your phase date and we will walk it with your own invoices. **What does it cost?** The software is priced per plan, in AED, on the pricing page. Transmission is priced by the provider you appoint; ask for that figure in writing before you sign anything, including from us. ### UAE VAT explained: registration, rates and what belongs on a tax invoice URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-vat-explained Country: AE. The parts that cost businesses money are the registration threshold, the difference between zero-rated and exempt, and an invoice that is missing one required field. Key facts: Standard rate — 5%; Register at — AED 375,000; Voluntary at — AED 187,500; Keep records — 5 years. **Do free zone businesses pay VAT?** Generally yes. Only supplies within and between the specific zones designated for VAT purposes get special treatment, and the rules there are about goods rather than services. Being in a free zone is not by itself an exemption. **Can I recover VAT on entertaining clients?** No. Input tax on entertainment provided to anyone who is not an employee is blocked, as is tax on certain motor vehicles available for private use. **What if my customer never pays?** Bad debt relief lets you recover the output tax you already paid, subject to conditions — the debt must be written off, more than six months old, and the customer notified. **Do I need to register for corporate tax as well?** Corporate tax is a separate regime with its own registration and returns. Being VAT-registered does not register you for it, and the thresholds are unrelated. **Is a PDF invoice acceptable?** Today, yes, if it carries the required fields. Once your e-invoicing phase begins, the legal invoice is the structured document exchanged over the network, and the PDF becomes a courtesy copy. ### The 90-day UAE e-invoicing readiness plan URL: https://www.wisobooks.com/guides/uae-einvoicing-readiness Country: AE. Three months, in order, with the week each thing belongs in. Key facts: Phase 1 live — 1 Jan 2027; Phase 2 live — 1 Jul 2027; Plan for — 90 days; Hardest part — Master data. **How long does this really take?** For a business with clean data and one system, a few weeks. For a business with three spreadsheets, several thousand customer records and no TRNs, the data work alone fills the ninety days. **Do we need an IT project?** If your accounting system produces PINT AE and connects to your provider, no. If you are building a mapping layer between systems, yes — and that layer becomes something you own permanently. **What if we are not in the first phase?** You have longer, and the same list. Businesses under AED 50 million appoint by 31 March 2027 and go live on 1 July 2027; the pilot is open to you before that. **Can we start in the pilot without committing?** That is what the pilot is for. Voluntary use ahead of your phase carries no penalty exposure, and it is the only way to find your edge cases at a time of your choosing.
